Ancients 34 is now live - arguably our finest regular sale to date - bringing together over 500 exceptional and highly desirable coins from across the ancient world. The auction runs until 23 April, with live bidding commencing at 2pm (GMT). Advance online bidding is available via The Coin Cabinet Auctions, Apollo Art Auctions, and Biddr, while the sale will be conducted live on The Coin Cabinet Auctions and Apollo Art Auctions platforms. The sale opens with a strong Celtic offering. Lot 2 presents a striking Vindelici gold stater of rich yellow tone, followed by popular Eastern European Celtic tetradrachms in lots 14 and 15. Lot 17 offers a beautifully composed Ambiani gold stater from northeast Gaul. A brief Magna Graecia section includes lot 19, a Syracuse Deinomenid Tyranny tetradrachm in About Extremely Fine, with lustrous highlights and an attractive cabinet tone. The Greek section offers collector favourites throughout. Highlights include lots 22 and 23 for Athenian owl tetradrachm enthusiasts, lot 32, an Ephesos cistophoric tetradrachm with an especially appealing reverse, and lot 35, a very rare and historically intriguing issue of Aristoboulos (4 Chalkoi). Lots 38-48 present an impressive run of tetradrachms of Alexander III, Philip III, Kassander, and Demetrios I 'Poliorketes'. Also of note is lot 80, a sharply struck Rhodian drachm in high relief with its iconic rose reverse. Judaean issues include three 1/8 shekels, while the eastern section features high-grade pieces such as lot 113, a Tyrian shekel with a striking portrait of Melkart. The Roman Republican series includes several distinctive types: lot 129, a high-grade issue depicting a quadriga drawn by stags; lot 147, an elegant L. Cassius Longinus showing a voter at the ballot box; and lot 156, a rare and evocative depiction of a Gallic woman with carnyx. Roman gold remains a centrepiece of the sale, with aurei of major emperors including Tiberius (lot 174), Vespasian (lot 182), Titus (lot 184), Trajan (lot 190), and Hadrian (lot 195). The cover coin, lot 209, is a superb aureus of Antoninus Pius of outstanding quality and pedigree. Roman silver is equally strong, including lot 183, a high-grade denarius of Titus as Caesar (AD 72), lot 199, a lustrous Hadrian, and lot 206, an About Mint State Antoninus Pius. A rich selection of Severan dynasty denarii follows, with notable examples of Septimius Severus, Julia Domna, Caracalla, Geta, Macrinus, Elagabalus, and Severus Alexander. Highlights include lot 309, a bold Caracalla with a powerful Jupiter reverse, and lot 317, a finely detailed Geta in About Mint State. Late Roman gold is well represented, with solidi of Constantius II (lot 419), Julian II (lot 433), Valens (lot 437), and Leo I (lot 441). Roman provincial issues include a group of Antioch tetradrachms spanning emperors from Vespasian to Philip I. The Byzantine section features attractive glass weights (lots 497–504), followed by a strong group of gold issues of Justinian I, Maurice Tiberius, Constans II, Justinian II, and Constantine VI with Irene. The sale concludes with a particularly strong Islamic section, featuring an excellent run of gold dinars from lot 514 to the end of the sale. Bidding is now open.
